The First United Methodist Church of Midland faced difficulties in connecting with its community due to its maze of older buildings, which had evolved over the church's 130-year history. The church's main entrance was also unwelcoming to outsiders. To address these challenges and create an exceptional solution, the church enlisted Beck's integrated design and construction team. Beck transformed an internal courtyard into a 6,000 square foot atrium filled with light, creating a new "heart" on campus. Over 14,500 square feet of space around the atrium were renovated to include a modern worship room that seats 280 people, a café, a guest welcome center, and a new bridal suite. Additionally, a meditation garden was added in a dramatic space between the atrium and the church's old sanctuary, which pays homage to the church's history.
